Alaska Trip: Glacier Bay

Our cruise ship went slowly up the fjords of Glacier Bay so that we could really take in the scenery.  It took us a few hours to get all the way up to the glaciers, but the scenery was always changing.

We would sail up one fjord after another to see the glaciers.  When we made it to the Grand Pacific glacier and the Margerie glacier our cruise ship just turned in a circle for about an hour.  We could hear the ice cracking and got to see calving a few times.

I know this just looks like a bunch of brown rocks, but that's actually glacial ice.  It's got so much dirt and rock in it that it changes the color.

You can see how close these 2 glaciers actually get.

Calving

This is the day that made it so worth having a balcony.  We could sit out there and enjoy the scenery.  Our room ended up being next to my aunts and uncles so we could open the dividers between the balconies so we could hang out with everyone.  Most of our pictures from that day were taken right from our balcony.

The seagulls were nuts.  They know that cruise ships mean food so they will fly right up to you trying to get something.  They weren't scared at all!

This was such a relaxing, beautiful day!
